Mira Benser
painter & photoartist
Mira Benser, born Mira Helene Benser in Düsseldorf, comes from a long line of artists whose influence significantly shaped her life and career. Her parents, photographer Heide Benser and photographer and cinematographer Klaus Benser, nurtured her creativity from an early age. This was further enriched by her family's strong roots in painting—tracing back to her great-grandfather Werner Heuser, as well as ancestors like Alfred Rethel and her grandmother Ursula Benser. During her childhood, she received artistic training from renowned teachers such as Bojan Momtschilow, Bettina Hachmann, and Aloys Cremers.
Mira began her acting career at the age of 19. In 2010, she spent several months in New York, where she attended acting classes at the New York Film Academy and gained experience behind the camera. In 2013, she started studying costume design at HAW Hamburg but soon decided to pursue her passion for acting and began her drama studies at the University of Music and Theatre Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig, which she completed in 2017.
During her studies, Mira performed at the Neues Theater Halle, appearing in roles such as Snow White in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and in Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment. After making her debut in 2017 at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, where she played the lead role of Hilary in the German-language premiere of Tom Stoppard’s The Hard Problem, she appeared in numerous acclaimed productions until 2022. Her notable roles include Recha in Nathan the Wise, Nora in A Doll’s House, and Luise in Love and Intrigue. In addition to her theater work, Mira has also established herself in film and television productions.
Mira’s artistic versatility extends to her work as a visual artist. She combines photography and painting by digitally editing her photographs and then transferring them to canvas using oil paint. During her time in the theater, she regularly sketched and photographed her colleagues during rehearsals and performances, which shaped her style and fostered her passion for experimenting with various techniques such as oil, acrylic, watercolor and ink. She also creates collages that reflect her unique approach to blending different art forms.
Today, Mira Benser lives in Hamburg, where she passionately pursues both her acting and artistic careers. Her works embody a universal work of art that unites her many talents and creative visions.
